Robot builders and their creations will converge on Marietta Georgia to compete at Sumo Robot Wrestling, Vacuuming the floor and Show off their Robot at the 10th Annual Robot RallyŠ . Sponsored by the Atlanta Hobby Robot Club and hosted by Southern Polytechnic State University, the event features four robotic competitions: Open Competition, Sumo Wrestling, Radio Controlled Robotic Combat and Vacuuming. Robot Builders: Plan on building that robot and enter it into the Robot Rally© !
"This is an exciting and fun event for everybody. Interest in robotics is growing and the Atlanta Hobby Robot Club hosts the Robot Rally© to showcase the talents of local robot builders." explains Frank Borowiec, President of the Atlanta Hobby Robot Club. "We are looking forward to hosting this year's event at Southern Poly. Every year, the event gets bigger and the robots get more sophisticated." Vacuum Contest - The rally features a practical robot contest that should interest anyone who keeps a clean house - Vacuuming! One half pound of long grain rice will be spread over carpet in a simulated room environment. The robot that recovers the most rice within the four-minute time limit wins. One-on-one, Mini Sumo Wrestling - This contest has generated a lot of interest and excitement at the monthly club meetings. Autonomous (no human control) robots fight to push their opponent out of the ring, the crowd cheers on their favorite! Ant-weight combat robots - Our "PlexiDome" arena will be the venue for exciting robot battles. The robots may be radio controlled or autonomous, must weigh 16 ounces or less and fit inside a 12 inch circle. The robots are allowed to use destructive weapons but for safety certain types of weapons such as flames will not be allowed. The rules will be based on the RFL rule set as adopted by Sozbots for the one pound class. The official AHRC variant of this rule set has not yet been created. Our annual Open Competition is available for any robot! Innovation is rewarded. A panel of expert judges evaluates your robot based upon your criteria. Compete for cash and prizes! Sorry, due to safety restrictions, no open flames are allowed. The Atlanta Hobby Robot Club is a group of people who build robots as a hobby. Members range in age from 7 to 70 plus and include students, computers professionals, and engineers.

Corporate Sponsors WantedThe Atlanta Hobby Robot Club (AHRC) is seeking corporate sponsors for the 2006 Robot Rally©. Help do something for technology growth and education in Atlanta. The AHRC encourages scientific education through club involvement. We have experience with two participation models: 1) Sponsors can provide banners, flyers or a video-tape we could run on a big-screen TV. This would probably require the least amount of work. Banners can be hung from the ceiling or attached to the outside of the 6 inch high arena walls. Please contact us if you have questions about the size or shape of the banners we can use. 2) Some sponsors may choose to fly to Atlanta to demonstrate and or represent their company at the event. Exhibit space will be provided and we will allow time to address the crowd before the contest starts. We'd also include banners and flyers and such. I will provide hotel recommendations and directions to the event. Sponsors generally contribute prizes or money to defray our costs.
